2014 Goldeneye Pinot Noir
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $38.94 (reg. $44.94)
In a world where even middle-of-the-road Pinot Noir often sells for $50 and up, Goldeneye remains arguably one of the best Pinots you can find for under $50 let alone for under $40. With 2014 being an absolutely exceptional vintage for Pinot Noir from Anderson Valley, this is already one of the most sought-after Goldeneyes. When even off-vintage Goldeneye sells out, you can expect demand for the '14 to be at an all-time high.
While 2013 may have been the year of the Napa Cab, Pinot Noir was the “star of the 2014 vintage in Sonoma and Anderson Valley” according to Vinous, with "dense, structured wines endowed with considerable depth and richness."
Named not for the Bond film, but a yellow-eyed waterfowl that passes through Anderson Valley, Goldeneye is Duckhorn’s Anderson Valley label and their signature wine is a bold, but balanced Pinot Noir in a style defines the wines of Anderson Valley. Duckhorn’s wide selection of vineyard sites allowed them to create a wine that reflects the vintage. Blanketed by cooling coastal influences, Mendocino County has received a massive influx of attention since the 90s as producers learned what terroir Pinot Noir thrives in and realized Anderson Valley, is it. Duckhorn has gone all in too, developing 180 acres of vineyards in the region.
Available at the best price in the country and in stock. Given how popular this wine typically is, we’d advise you to lock in your allocation, as once you pull your first cork, you'll be wishing you had more. Cheers!
