2014 La Ca' Nova Montefico

On Sale: $39.94 (was: $49.94)*
La Ca' Nova is “one of Piedmont's under the radar jewels” (Galloni) and in a region that is seeing prices skyrocket along with popularity, La Ca' Nova, “the greatest Barbaresco estate most people have not heard about,” is an affordable holdout that should be a regular for every Nebbiolo fan. Today we've got their single-vineyard gem from Montefico which is considered one of the region's best crus. Given the reputation of this artisanal, family producer and the quality of the vintage and cru, today’s 96pt effort is an absolute steal for under $40!
La Ca' Nova sits right between Montefico and Montestefano, and their releases from these two sites are among the savviest buys in Barbaresco today. These are two of the region’s top crus, and prior to founding La Ca' Nova in the 1970s, the Rocca family sold their harvest to Gaja. Vineyards like Montefico and Montestefano are known for having similar terroir to Barolo, rich in calcareous limestone and yielding powerful and long lived wine. Montefico however, is a local favorite, as it exemplifies the iron fist in a velvet glove personality that defines the best Nebbiolo.
2014 was a stunning vintage for Barbaresco and La Ca' Nova have released some of their best wines ever. Very little of this wine makes it to the US, so we strongly encourage you to jump on this chance fast!
96 points, Vinous: "A classic, old-school, the 2014 Barbaresco Montefico Vigna Bric Mentina is focused and very tightly wound, and yet the wine pulses with captivating energy. Chalk, white pepper, mint, cranberry and sweet tobacco give the wine brightness, but, as is often the case with Montefico Barbarescos, the 2014 is really a wine of texture above all else. Next to the Montestefano, the Montefico is a bit more translucent and energetic in style, which is the personality of this site embodied. I loved it." - Antonio Galloni
