"I am continually blown away by what they are able to put in bottle, and if you factor in price, these are no-brainer purchases."
- Robert Parker's Wine Advocate on Melville
Melville is by far one of our favorite California wineries given their brilliant quality and terrific pricing, and today's wine really has those bases covered. For under $30, this is a superbly balanced Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir from a producer that delivers stunning value year after year.
The Melvilles are "a serious viticultural family with an impeccable vineyard and top-notch wines," according to Parker while the Wine Advocate’s Jeb Dunnuck has praised them for making “some of the greatest values in the world of wine today.” Dunnuck has also noted their wines “lean toward the more complex, finesse-driven side of the spectrum.” Delicious, aromatic, and complex, this bottle of Pinot begs you to fall in love with the Santa Rita Hills, if you haven't done so already!
2014 was a warm and generous year in California, and for the Santa Barbara area, it resulted in rich, well rounded Pinots that are showing beautifully today but with great potential over the next few years.
Real values in California Pinot are hard to find, but this arguably one of the best - impressive enough to pour for guests but inexpensive enough to open any night of the week. Stock up on this one by the case, it's totally worth it! Cheers!
