2014 Quintessa Proprietary Red
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $154 (reg. $174.94)
In an era of Napa Cabs that seek to knock your socks off, Quintessa has pushed the boundaries of elegance and depth rather than brute force, and have acquired an intensely loyal following in the process. Sourced from their biodynamic Rutherford estate just off the Silverado Trail, the 2014 Quintessa is a standout of the vintage with 97 points from James Suckling. Marking Quintessa’s 20th anniversary, the 2014 is a true Napa collectible, and ought to easily make it to their 40th.
Quintessa has been described as a “magnificent estate in Rutherford” by Robert Parker, and since 2010 pretty much everything has been going their way. The estate vines are now entering maturity and are perfectly trained to handle difficult drought conditions, leading to exceptionally concentrated and long-lived wines. 2014 was no exception, and Robert Parker described it as the “best set of wines I have yet tasted” from the property.
Quintessa continues to up its game with every vintage, bringing on Rebekah Wineburg (Buccella, Rudd, Staglin) as estate winemaker, and the ‘14s were the first they employed barrel fermentation trials, leading to an even fuller textured finish and deeper flavor. Quintessa keeps production low, and allocations are always tight, so contact us ASAP to grab a few of these exceptional bottles. Cheers!
