2014 Robert Craig Cabernet Sauvignon Mt Veeder
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $79.94 (reg. $84.94)
Coming at you from the slopes of Napa’s legendary Mt Veeder, the 2014 Robert Craig Cabernet Sauvignon is a “huge, dramatic Cabernet” (Galloni) from one of the region’s best vineyards, Pym Rae. Now owned by the Tesseron family of Pontet-Canet in Pauillac, Pym Rae once belonged to the late, great Robin Williams, and it has been known as a special site in Napa for many years. The vineyard delivers exactly the kind of “Bordeaux-like elegance” (Parker) that Robert Craig is known and loved for.
Parker has praised Robert Craig for having “kept a lid of pricing” too and with the tariffs on many top Napa Cabs being what they are, that’s something we all can appreciate. With high-pedigree raw materials and a producer with a proven track record for excellence, fans that seek out the best that Napa has to offer will want to jump on this new release quickly before it sells out.
Wine Spectator has heralded 2014 in Napa as "a dream vintage" while James Suckling has suggested "that the 2014s are sensational. Go get some." The vintage delivered a balanced and consistent growing season, and for Robert Craig's Mt Veeder offering the result is a particularly deep, mouth-coating Cabernet that highlights the trademark mountain characteristics of rich blue fruits and floral elements that match the long-lasting tannin and promises several decades of development.
Parker has had nothing but praise for this wine over the years, noting previous vintages that "could easily pass for a high class Margaux" and "an absolutely stunning value in Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa." We feel that this current vintage is right in line with those comments and Cabernet fans will want to stock up. Cheers!
