2014 Roserock Domaine Drouhin Pinot Noir Zephirine
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $54.94 (reg. $59.94)
The Drouhin family’s Pinot empire has doubled down in Oregon, expanding their celebrated Dundee Hills estate into the neighboring Eola-Amity AVA to create Roserock, and the label’s inaugural vintage of their top cuvee ‘Zepherine’ is a wine Oregon Pinot fans won’t want to miss!
The Drouhin family’s new estate is the pinnacle of their 30+ years in the Willamette Valley and proudly shows that far from being mere foreign guests in Oregon, they are as much a part of the landscape as any. The Roserock ‘Zephirine’ is the best of the best of the new Eola Amity vineyard; a barrel selection of the best plots blended to create a gorgeous Pinot with density, ripeness, and structure that will age like a great Burgundy! Earning high scores from critics, we are very happy to have secured an allocation of this exquisite wine.
2014 was a “cakewalk” of a vintage according to Vinous with producers able to create their “platonic” Pinot Noir, the best example of what they do. As debut vintages go, this was as good as it gets for Roserock and the inaugural release of ‘Zephirine’ has critical praise across the board. A “landmark bottling” according to Gilman, it is “utterly stunning” with a “superbly perfumed bouquet.” This is classic Willamette Valley Pinot through and through.
Drouhin clearly understands the complexities of Oregon terroir, and fans of Oregon and Burgundy will not want to skip this stunning and age-worthy effort! Cheers!
