"Uccelliera has earned its reputation as one of the Grand Cru wines of Montalcino." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Uccelliera is one of the most exciting modern-day producers in Montalcino, applying traditional techniques and meticulous vineyard management to the warmer Castelnuovo dell'Abate subzone. The outcome is a big, flamboyant expressions of Sangiovese that nevertheless is a transparent representation of this legendary grape. The Uccelliera Rosso di Montalcino shares many traits with Brunello, showing attractive characteristic aromas of black cherry, Tuscan soil, and orange peel in a soft and accessible package.
This is a crowd-pleasing Rosso at ⅓ of the price of its big brother Brunello, and we have it today for the lowest price around!
Ucccelliera has never been shy about what they set out to do back in 1986. In the wrong hands, Sangiovese from the warmer Castelnuovo dell'Abate area to the south of Montalcino can produce overripe, alcoholic wines, but careful vineyard management and lower yields make a beautiful Sangiovese of elegance and tension, after all, Poggio di Sotto is just next door. The Wine Advocate’s Monica Larner praised winemaker Andrea Cortonesi as “one of my favorite Brunello producers” embodying the “amazing growth of Brunello di Montalcino" and Galloni wrote that the “wines have never been better” at this “artisan” address.
For under $20 this is a great value in Montalcino-grown sangiovese and is a phenomenal everyday rosso that won’t break the bank or demand years of patience. Grab a case today, cheers!
