The 2015 Chiantis are some of the most irresistible (and affordable) Sangioveses we’ve tried in a long time, and if you haven’t tried a Riserva from this vintage now is the time! Today’s “fantastic” ‘I Colli’ Chianti Classico Riserva is a picture perfect Tuscan red that also happens to be made by one of Chianti’s most historic producers. The Bindi Sergardi family has been part of the Siena/Chianti wine scene since the 1300s, and while a lot has changed since then, what remains clear is their Tenuta Colli vineyard makes incredible Sangiovese, like this "flavorful" 95pt effort!
Chianti has one of the most extraordinary histories of any wine region in Italy, dating back well over 500 years. The Bindi Sergardi family was there in the very beginning, and was also a founding member of the Chianti Classico Consorzio a century ago. Their I Colli estate is exceptional for it’s rocky limestone soils and high elevation, which combined with the Tuscan sunshine produces rich, full bodied Chianti that mimic top Brunellos.
2015 will be one vintage you do not want to miss, as it “yielded rich, sumptuous Chianti Classicos with great depth and intensity” (Vinous). With the extra aging of a Riserva, this 2015 ‘I Colli’ is even deeper, more textural, and structured than an entry level Chianti, and will stand up to a variety of foods. Cheers!
95 points, James Suckling: "Lots of black cherries, crushed raspberries and flowers on the nose. Full body and firm, chewy tannins. Extremely long and flavorful. A beauty. Fantastic. Drink or hold."
