Caparzo’s consistent performance over the past decade or so has made them the name to beat for Brunello in this price range. Their 50th anniversary bottling from the 2015 vintage shows an incredibly classic Brunello profile and a fabulous structure for mid-term aging. This “offers all you need in a model Brunello” and, “delivers the goods without any distracting bells or whistles” per the Wine Advocate, and it's tailor made for the dinner table!

“An important force in Tuscan wine” (Wine Advocate), Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini has been at the helm of both Caparzo and sister property Altesino for about two decades now, turning these properties into some of our favorite sources for Brunello. Caparzo “has been on a roll of late” (Galloni), managing to walk the tightrope between accessibility and classicism in a way that few others can. In a warm, dry vintage like 2015, there was no shortage of ripeness, but their diverse vineyards provided ample material to build a really well balanced release. Some more ‘premium’ Brunelli can often go too far on the extraction and oak to justify the higher price tag, but Caparzo’s fresher and more balanced style means this is a perfect foil for the classic food pairings. Cheers!

95 points, James Suckling: "Plum and ripe-berry with cedar and fresh-mushroom aromas and flavors. Full body, round and juicy tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Hints of chocolate. Shows intensity and focus."

93 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "...a very classic interpretation that delivers the goods without any distracting bells or whistles. The wine opens to red and purple fruit aromas with background tones of dried herb, potting soil, cedar wood and light spice. Fruit comes from a site with heavier clay soils, and you get hints of that extra density and richness here. This vintage offers all you need in a model Brunello from a very beautiful and generous vintage. I always admire the wines of Caparzo for their accessible and immediate drinking style."
