The incredible region of Toro is known for both old vines and incredible value, but our latest find from this relatively young family winery checks even more boxes than usual. This is an absolutely tremendous value for a 96pt gem from 100+ year old, ungrafted Tempranillo vines, particularly at 30% off, and it's an exciting new discovery for us. You won’t find this juicy and full throttled effort anywhere else in the US, and with “impressive silkiness” and “a lot of complexity” (Decanter), fans of Toro, Ribera, or Rioja will want to jump on this beautiful 2015 Seleccion Especial!

Toro takes the prize as one of the most exciting emerging wine regions in Europe, primarily because it has a wealth of ancient vineyards that were untouched by the phylloxera epidemic 140 years ago. Old vines impart character and complexity that is hard to mimic, not to mention impressive concentration thanks to naturally low yields. Carodorum is part of a new generation of locals taking the extraordinary winemaking heritage of Toro and elevating it to new heights, and for the time being, it remains an extraordinary source of value. A Burgundy domaine sporting 14ha of ungrafted century-old vines would be charging hundreds of dollars (with or without 96pts) but for only $28.94, this is a terrific value for a full-bodied, layered old-vine red just overflowing with personality. Cheers!

96 points, Decanter World Wine Awards: "Juicy and sweet dark plum and blackberry aromas with creamy oak notes. Impressive silkiness on the palate, with a lot of complexity and a very persistent finish."
