2015 Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon Signature Napa Valley
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $54.94 (reg. $59.94)
Chappellet’s Signature Cabernet Sauvignon has been their flagship for decades now and while the source of this “incredible wine” (Dunnuck) is Pritchard Hill (as well as for Colgin and Bryant Family), their Cabernet remains “one of the best values in Napa” (Vinous). With a sub-60 dollar price tag, Chappellet has somehow avoided the hype machine that drives the pricing of so many cult producers, and remained a standard bearer for sensibly priced Cabernet.
“One of the hottest viticultural regions of Napa Valley” (Parker), the once little-known Pritchard Hill is a phenomenal piece of terroir. With four decades of experience on this site, Chappellet today makes “some of the most exciting Cabernets coming out of Napa” (Parker). Per Galloni, “The Chappellets were the first to recognize the value and potential of these pristine mountain sites above St. Helena.”
Suave, juicy, and robust, the 2015 has an “incredibly pure bouquet of crème de cassis, hints of blue fruits, graphite, and cedar” per Dunnuck that perfectly capture the vintage. 2015 was another idyllic, but lower yielding Napa vintage and Vinous writes that the Cabernets are “positively stunning in their beauty”.
For a 96-point Napa Cab under sixty bucks, this is “about as good as it gets” and we think you’ll be as impressed as we are with Chappellet’s 2015. Juicy and delicious now, it will surprise with a couple decades of longevity, too. Cheers!
