“This is a great Fronsac wine in the making...” - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Savvy Bordeaux lovers know Fronsac offers superb quality and value, especially in great vintages such as 2015, which yielded “spectacularly rich, racy wines loaded with personality" per Antonio Galloni. This lovely Château Clos du Roy is a fantastic example, crafted with guidance from eminent wine consultant Michel Rolland (whose clients have included Angélus, Ausone, Clinet, Pape Clément, Pavie, Pontet-Canet, Troplong-Mondot, Dalla Valle, Harlan, and Bryant Family among others), and it's an absolutely smokin' effort for just $15.94!
Owned by the Hermouet family, the Clos du Roy vineyard is located on the hills sandwiched between the Isle and Dordogne Rivers. The soils are an ideal mix of limestone and clay, which are particularly suited to producing structured, age-worthy wines. Clos du Roy continues to climb in fame and rank since its first bottling in 1970 and is a reminder why we should head to Fronsac as “a source of some quite marvelous Merlot-based wines.” (Wine Advocate)
With its pedigree, vintage, and price, Clos du Roy is in short supply. Stock up now, and “give this impressive Fronsac a few years in the cellar and drink over the following decade or more" (Dunnuck). Cheers!
