On Sale $94.94 (reg. $129.94)
Clos Saint Jean’s legendary ‘Combe des Fous’ is an annual favorite among collectors of top-shelf Chateauneuf du Pape and with good reason. Among the finest producers in the Southern Rhone, Clos Saint Jean “possesses some of the best old vine parcels of the appellation” (Parker) and since Pascal and Vincent Maurel took over from their father in 2002, the estate has produced “some of the most profound wines on the planet” (Dunnuck). With that kind of praise, it’s clear why Clos Saint Jean is in such high demand in normal vintages, but fans will not want to skip the 2015.
According to Vinous, in 2015 a “number of producers in Châteauneuf appear to have made their best wines in recent memory” while the Wine Advocate published that “quality is incredibly high across all of the appellations, and even across all varieties.” The combination of full ripeness and freshness means that these are Châteauneuf for every palate and ready to drink today or be cellared for years.
Getting Clos Saint Jean’s top cuvees for under $100 can be easier said than done, so Rhone enthusiasts will want to act fast as this cuvee does not usually remain in stock for long!
