"The hallmarks of the Grand Veneur wines include their extraordinary purity of flavor and impeccable balance. Moreover, they have kept prices remarkably fair." - Robert Parker
The 2015 vintage in the southern Rhone has the critics in a frenzy: "Looks to be the best vintage since 2010" (WS), "consistently high quality" (Vinous), "a beautiful vintage for Southern Rhône lovers that will be a treasure trove for the actual wine drinkers out there" (WA).
Grand Veneur's ‘Les Origines’ has been described in the past as "a perfect example of a modern styled Chateauneuf du Pape that never loses its Southern Rhone soul" (WA), and given the conditions in 2015 they've delivered another blockbuster! This is a grab-with-both-hands kind of an offer that we just couldn’t ignore.
Grand Veneur took full advantage of this goldilocks vintage, and the ‘Les Origines’ is a complex and hedonistic Châteauneuf that is “full-bodied, ultra-pure and with incredibly polished tannin” (WA94-96pts). The 50-100 year old vines responsible for ‘Les Origines’ are adjacent to those at Beaucastel in the northern portion of the AOC, producing wines that are no less remarkable and age-worthy.
This youthful Chateauneuf may be tempting to open now, but will reward a few years of patience. "At the end of the day, you can’t go wrong here," says Jeb Dunnuck of Grand Veneur, and we certainly agree that's the case with this sub-$50 stunner. Cheers!
