"...this superb estate has become one of my favorite estates...If you haven’t discovered Saint-Prefert and the brilliant winemaker Isabel Ferrando, it’s about time!" - Robert Parker
Winemaking is full of unforeseen challenges and seasonal surprises - just look at Isabel Ferrando, whose very first vintage in Chateauneuf du Pape was the scorching 2003. Flash forward to 2015 however, and it’s clear that this “brilliant winemaker” (Parker) didn’t let her debut set the tone for her career. Since she resurrected the Saint-Prefert estate in 2003 it has been “one superb release after another” (Dunnuck) including a 100-pointer in 2007, and her 2015s according to Dunnuck, are “some of the most badass 2015s I was able to taste.” This kind of critical praise in such an ideal vintage is no surprise but add to that the sub-$40 price and it becomes a no-brainer deal for fans of vibrant Chateauneuf.
Raised entirely in tank, the 85% Grenache, and remainder Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault, all wrap together in a gloriously pure and fresh expression that Vinous described as “an outstanding example” of the so-called "basic" Châteauneuf. Given the high proportion of Grenache and absence of oak, this “impeccably balanced beauty” shows the brilliant red fruit you would expect, with “kirsch, framboise, dried flowers and spice” (Dunnuck).
In just 15 years, Isabel Ferrando’s incredible passion has won over consumers and critics alike, and Robert Parker has declared Saint-Prefert “one of my favorite estates in Chateauneuf du Pape.” This is a stunning opportunity to try one of the Rhones hottest up-and-comers and an easy case buy for Chateauneuf fans the world over! Cheers!
