Giovanni Manzone is the type of small production, family estate that has been waiting to be discovered for nearly a hundred years. With their handcrafted, single cru Baroli from a little corner of Monforte they appear to finally be getting the attention they deserve. With three Baroli produced from around their estate in Castelletto, Manzone is an under the radar gem offering a style of Barolo that speaks clearly of its origins in Monforte’s highest elevation vineyards, and for terrific prices.

The 2015 ‘Castelletto’ is a “truly impressive” 95pt Barolo (Vinous) that at $46.94 is great value for a single cru cuvee from Monforte, and we've got it for the best price around! With the warm, ripe vintage favoring higher elevation crus, this is the perfect year to jump in on Manzone’s “wonderfully nuanced, translucent Barolo,” and at under fifty bucks, it’s one to stock up on big time!

The steep slope of Castelletto reaches 1,500’ and faces Serralunga, but the personality of Manzone’s wines is pure Monforte, with big bright cherry perfume and deceptively powerful structure. Organically farmed, with minimal sulfur, Manzone’s “simply impressive” 2015s are remarkably approachable and honest expressions of Nebbiolo, but the terroir still shines through in its structure and energy. This beautiful vintage is an excellent opportunity to sample the affordable and distinctive single cru Barolo from this century old estate!

95 points, Vinous: "Manzone's 2015 Barolo Castelletto is truly impressive. Bold, rich and pulsing with energy, the 2015 captures all the vibrancy that makes Barolos from Castelletto so distinctive, with an extra touch of mid-palate sweetness. If that sounds appealing, well, it is. Rose petal, bright red berry fruit, mint, chalk and wild flowers all run through this wonderfully nuanced, translucent Barolo. There is so much to like here. What a pretty wine this is." - Antonio Galloni
