2015 La Fleur de Bouard Lalande de Pomerol
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $29.94 (reg. $32.94)
Lalande de Pomerol lies just north of the Pomerol boundary and offers a real value alternative to its famous neighbor. There is no shortage of estates worth watching here, but one stands above all. Per Robert Parker, “the reigning reference point for just how remarkable the wines of Lalande de Pomerol can be is Château La Fleur de Boüard.”
If you’re not already familiar with this estate, you surely know its owners. The de Boüard de Laforest family are Bordeaux royalty with eight generations of winemaking savoir-faire behind them. Most often associated with Château Angélus, patriarch Hubert de Boüard de Laforest is one of the region’s most sought-after consultant oenologists, counting over 80 clients throughout Bordeaux and beyond. His talented young daughter Coralie runs La Fleur de Boüard and is one of the most prominent young producers in Bordeaux today.
Bordeaux, per Antonio Galloni, “enjoyed its strongest vintage in a number of years in 2015” and “at their best, the 2015s are spectacularly rich, racy wines loaded with personality.” La Fleur de Boüard fits that bill, and indeed Parker says that it “consistently over-achieves in most vintages”.
Jeb Dunnuck calls this 2015 “an awesome wine to seek out” and we've just received of a small parcel direct from Bordeaux. A double 93-pointer from what Parker calls “the superstar estate” of its appellation, prestigious oversight, and it’s available for under $30 a bottle? Get on this while quantities last. Cheers!
