2015 Latour Martillac
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale: $39.94 (was: $54.94)*
While great vintages like 2015 often push us to explore the traditional ‘top’ wines from the Medoc, Pessac-Leognan “nailed it in 2015” (Wine Advocate) and “should be one of the first areas of Bordeaux at which you look.” Today’s 2015 Latour Martillac is the perfect choice in this vintage as they have made “one of the best in recent years” (Wine Advocate), and with an incredible price of only $39.94 it’s your chance to stock up on some seriously good Bordeaux for the best price around!
With its picturesque tower dating back to the 12th century, Latour Martillac is overflowing with Bordeaux history, and their grand vin is classic Pessac-Leognan through and through. Latour Martillac has made some “major strides in quality” (Parker) over the past two decades and the price remains well below the quality level they are putting out. While the Kressman family has owned Latour Martillac since the 1800s, the modern era has been defined by winemaker Valérie Vialard, the first female winemaker in Pessac-Léognan. Latour Martillac is a seriously undervalued Pessac waiting to be discovered, and at this price it’s time to stock up!
95 points, Wine Enthusiast: "Solid tannins mark this still very young wine. At the same time, the fruit is rich and well proportioned. Black currants dominate the fruity spectrum, giving the wine richness as well as great potential..."
94 points, Vinous: "The 2015 Latour-Martillac is a powerful, muscular wine. Beams of tannin give the 2015 its potent, brooding personality. Savory herbs, new leather, wild cherry, smoke and kirsch get an extra kick of intensity from bright acids and pointed yet well-integrated tannins..." - Antonio Galloni
