2015 Shafer Vineyards TD-9
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $59.94 (reg. $64.94)
From “one of Napa’s most prominent and respected wineries," per Robert Parker, the TD-9 Proprietary Blend is Shafer Vineyards’ newest addition to an already legendary lineup, and a love letter to their remarkable 40-year history in Napa Valley. A stylistic fusion of right bank Bordeaux and modern-day cult Napa, the blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec is named for the oldest resident on the vineyard, a TD-9 tractor that came with the property. Overflowing with layers of dark red fruits and spice wrapped in an unctuous texture, the TD-9 is sourced from a special selection of their vineyards in and around Stags Leap and Yountville.
Shafer needs little praise, after all, they have spent 40 years cultivating their first growth reputation by producing some of Napa’s best and most reliable wines. Parker has called them “one of the most impeccably run wineries in the world” and their Bordeaux varieties are perennial favorites. It’s easy to overlook blue chips like Shafer with the next big thing constantly popping up in Napa, but they are undoubtedly one of California’s most respected family-run wineries.
2015 could not have been a better vintage for Shafer to debut the TD-9. Declared a “spectacular, high-quality vintage” by Robert Parker, other critics are echoing those sentiments, with Galloni indicating that 2015 is a "classic Napa Valley vintage built on opulence, texture and voluptuousness." Fans of the best that Napa has to offer will definitely want to get in on this new offering from "one of the superstar reference point/iconic wineries in all of California" (RP). Cheers!
