2016 Domaine Huet Vouvray Haut Lieu Moelleux
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale: $37.94 (was: $46.94)
It’s always exciting when we hear our buyers secured more Vouvray from Domaine Huet, as there's arguably no greater expression of Chenin Blanc on the planet. Made only in the best vintages, nothing compares with a Huet Moelleux as its depth and pedigree are off the charts, and well-stored examples can age for the better part of a century. The fact that it can be secured for only $37.94 is mind boggling, and a testament to how underappreciated Vouvray is in the 21st century.
Huet’s success comes not only from a century of experience, but from their concentration of vineyards along the "Première Côte," home to most of the grand cru level sites in Vouvray. The limestone and clay soils run deep, and the mineral depth and acidity that Chenin Blanc derives from these biodynamically farmed vineyards is matched by luscious sweetness.
Showing classic notes of “crystallized ginger, dried quince, glazed pear and warm persimmon” (Wine Spectator), this Haut-Lieu Moelleux benefited from near-perfect weather conditions in 2016 allowing for extended hang time for the grapes.
The flavors are as deep and vibrant as you can imagine, and it will soar with a a bit of patience in the cellar. Only 700 cases made, so don’t pass up this opportunity!
