La Poderina is “one of Montalcino's best kept secrets” (Galloni), delivering an affordable yet altogether classic Brunello. Their 2016 is, in keeping with vintage press, a spectacular rendition of their normale Brunello. This double 95pt 2016 is a perfectly balanced and focused Sangiovese, and you won’t find it for this price anywhere else!

2016 is being heralded as one of the best vintages for Brunello in years, “like well-muscled black stallions in their prime” (Vinous). All poetry aside, Brunello is in the midst of a real golden age. The move to a more restrained classical style plus a run of unbelievable vintages is giving us some incredible Sangiovese. Coming from the southern subzone of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, La Poderina has plenty of flashy, charming fruit, but it’s also fairly layered, with complexity and structure from the steep limestone and clay terroir, and “many nuances hidden directly under the surface” (Wine Advocate). This will age gorgeously for the next 15 or so years and both casual Sangiovese fans and Brunello collectors will want to take note. Cheers!

95 points, James Suckling: "A lovely, polished young Brunello with black cherries and floral, orange-peel and some mineral notes. It’s full-bodied and very fine-tannined with a long, focused finish."

95 points, Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Brunello is lifted with dried raspberry, orange peel, thyme, and dusty earth. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh cherry fruit, Mediterranean herbs, and a saline mineral finish. The tannins are fine-grained with refreshing and balanced acidity. This red opened up and stayed fresh for days. Enjoy over the next 15 years, 2021-2036."
