In our book, Ridge can pretty much do no wrong, and most critics agree they are one of the “most consistent and brilliant wineries in the United States” (Galloni). Working with everything from Cabernet, to old-vine Zinfandel, and Petite Sirah, Ridge gets California wine. Despite over four brilliant decades behind them, they’re “currently producing the best wines they've ever made” (Wine Advocate).
The Lytton Estate Petite Sirah is one of Ridge’s “iconic offerings” per Robert Parker, with all of the epic, large-framed character of the variety done up in a marvelously nuanced style that Ridge is so well loved for. This 94-point red reflects the strength of the vintage and is a concentrated, age-worthy Petite Sirah, overflowing with old-vine character and the structure to cellar for decades!
Ridge is indisputably a California First Growth, not just because they make one of the world’s greatest Bordeaux blends (Monte Bello), but also because of their unprecedented stewardship of California’s adopted varieties like Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, which were enormously popular among California’s early settlers.
The Ridge 2016 Petite Sirah has all of the old-vine character of the Lytton Springs Vineyard. The earliest vines date back to 1901, and in the beginning Ridge blended a bit in to their Lytton Springs Zinfandel. Starting in 2009, this 100% Petite Sirah became a steady part of the Ridge lineup, and fans of Dry Creek Valley reds will be thrilled with the results.
Enjoy this “dense and powerful” Petite Sirah over the next two decades. Cheers!
