Well-rated, legit Margaux for under 40 bucks? We might as well stop there, but for anyone who hasn’t been introduced to Chateau Labegorce read on, as this incredibly located estate is at the top of their game in 2018. Located just over a mile away from Chateau Margaux itself, in recent years “things are clearly on the upswing” (Parker) and critical acclaim from pretty much every corner has agreed this “rejuvenated estate” (Vinous) demands your attention!

At its best Margaux is the most elegant of the top left bank appellations, and the 2018 Labegorce “exudes elegance and class as well as balance” (Dunnuck), and at this price you can add great value to the list as well!

Prior to 2009, Chateau Labegorce was a fragmented property, formerly a much larger estate that had been broken up over the years. The Perrodo family not only acquired those pieces (Labrgorce-Zede, L'Abbé de Gorse) but reunited them all under one label starting in 2009. This new grand vin was a massive leap forward and things have only gotten more dialed in since. 2018 was “an undeniably great vintage” (Dunnuck), notable for flamboyant and charming fruit profiles that still retain their sense of place. This is one of those vintages that will offer a ton of up front appeal, but still retain the balance to age over two decades!

94 points, Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Château Labegorce is a perfumed, already complex Margaux based on 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Its medium ruby hue gives way to lovely notes of blueberries, raspberries, flowers, sandalwood, and assorted baking spice cabinet-like nuances. Medium to full-bodied, with beautifully pure fruit and silky tannins, it's a wine that grows on you with time in the glass. It's not a blockbuster, but it exudes elegance and class as well as balance. Enjoy bottles any time over the coming 20-25 years or more."

94 points, The Wine Cellar Insider: "The gorgeous perfume, with its wet earth, spice, smoke, flowers, red berries and espresso is a knockout! The wine is plush, rich and plump, with a long finish loaded with polished, sweet red fruits and silky textures. This should age for at least 2 decades easily. The wine blends 50% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot."
