Morgeot is the largest and most recognizable 1er cru in Chassagne-Montrachet, but in the hands of a top boutique producer like Blain-Gagnard, Morgeot lives up to its 1er cru status, and then some. Chassagne Montrachet has always hit that sweet spot for unapologetically delicious and charming Chardonnays and this 2018 is distinctive and crowd pleasing Chassagne Montrachet that should have a ton of appeal for old and new world palates alike!

Producing an array of “delightful wines” (Wine Advocate) from their mere 8ha of vines, Blain-Gagnard has their cellar just down the road from the extended family at Fontaine-Gagnard. Together, they are “two of the finest Chassagne producers” (Wine Advocate), though Jean-Marc Blain has developed a distinctive reputation for more classic, though never shy, white Burgundy. That dynamic is on full display in their Morgeot, and it’s an unabashedly delicious and rich Chardonnay that’s still very much from Burgundy. Very little new oak allows the fruit and natural richness to shine on this one, and it may have the potential to convert a few loyal California Chardonnay fans as well. Cheers!

91 points, Wine Spectator: "This white is plump, with good concentration up front, displaying peach, lemon and pastry flavors. Tightens up on the finish, with cleansing acidity."

90 points, Burghound: "This too is presently suffering from post-bottling reduction, but the underlying fruit does seem quite ripe. More interesting are the very rich, indeed almost lush, larger-scaled flavors that manage to be both caressing yet powerful, all wrapped in a lingering bitter lemon-inflected finale. As is typically the case with many examples of Morgeot, this isn't elegant, but it is certainly delicious."
