Domaine Pierre Morey is one of the top producers of the Cote de Beaune, and their “utterly classical representation of Meursault” (Wine Advocate) is a perennial standout from this iconic name.

In lesser hands, Meursault has a tendency to get a bit flabby in warmer vintages, but Morey’s 2018 proves that their exceptional vineyard work and careful touch will always win out. “Intense and brimming with energy”, the 2018 village Meursault very much “punches above its weight” (Vinous), proving once again that Morey is one of the top sources of white Burgundy. The 2018 is a beautiful expression from the very generous vintage, “sleek, intense and delicious” (Burghound), and a stellar choice for fans of this more balanced, traditional style of Meursault.

Pierre Morey was one of the 20th century's great white winemakers (at Leflaive from ‘88-’08), ranked by Vinous’ Neal Martin alongside Dominique Lafon and Jean-François Coche. Seeing how chemical treatments ruined the soil over the years, Morey was an early pioneer of organic/biodynamic viticulture, and all 10ha at his family Domaine have been certified since 1998.

Since Pierre’s retirement, daughter Anne Morey has proven herself an “excellent winemaker” known for her “very ‘soulful’ wines” (Vinous), and her continuation of the stringent vineyard management that defined Pierre Morey’s tenure. Her 2018s are “nicely concentrated and classically proportioned” (Wine Advocate), and this bottling is far more serious than your typical village Meursault. We strongly recommend you treat this one more like a 1er cru, as it will reward many years of patience if you choose. Cheers!

93 points, Decanter: "Vitality' is the word that Anne Morey uses to describe her 2018 whites and this village Meursault bears her out. Combining fruit from three parcels, aged in one-third new oak, it shows the restraint and balance that are hallmarks of the domaine's style, wth pithy focus, stone and citrus peel notes and a leesy mid-palate texture."

90-92 points, Vinous: "The 2018 Meursault Village is the usual blend of three parcels from Pellands, Chaumes de Narvaux and Forge. It has a very intense bouquet for a Village, the honeysuckle and orange pith aromas storming from the glass. The palate is likewise intense and brimming with energy, and quite spicy in the mouth, with hints of stem ginger and pineapple. Long on the finish, this Village Cru punches above its weight. Drink 2022-2040" - Neal Martin
