Lytton Springs is one of the unofficial flagships of Ridge’s lineup of superlative Zinfandel blends right alongside the iconic Geyserville. Together these are reference point Zins, as notable for being trailblazers back in the 1970s as they are for just being pretty high class reds today. Despite a 40 year track record as a top flight wine from this "iconic producer" (Parker), and earning double 95pt scores for the 2019 vintage, Ridge's Lytton Springs is still a fraction of the price of a Napa Cabernet, and no less suitable for the cellar or dinner table.

Ridge’s two wineries serve as anchors for both sides of this California 1st growth, one at Monte Bello and one at Lytton Springs. From there Ridge reigns as “one of the most consistent and brilliant wineries in the United States” (Galloni). Lytton Springs’ high percentage of Petite Sirah may prevent them from labeling this a straight Zinfandel, but it adds an old-school California structure and deep, dark, savory fruit to the profile. Year after year, there are few California reds under forty bucks that can go toe-to-toe with a Ridge Zinfandel, and Lytton Springs remains one of the absolute legends of Dry Creek Valley!

95 points, Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2019 Lytton Springs checks in as 73% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah, and the rest Carignan and Mataro. Revealing a translucent ruby/plum hue as well as beautiful cassis and red plum fruits supported by lots of savory herbs, orange blossom, cigar, and spice-driven aromas and flavors, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless texture, moderate yet present tannins, and a great finish. While the Geyserville Cuvee has eclipsed the Lytton Spring in most vintages in the past decade, that's not the case in 2019."

95 points, Wine Enthusiast: "This densely packed and deeply concentrated blend of Zinfandel with 16% Petite Sirah, 9% Carignan and 2% Mataro is practically legendary. It boasts subtle, complex fruit flavors ranging from raspberry to blackberry to blueberry, while a velvety texture of fine-grained tannins and a subtle raspberry-like tartness give it great structure."
