Bordeaux Blanc has always been one of the most criminally underappreciated white wines in France, despite sitting in the shadow of the world’s most expensive reds. That said, the best examples are rarely inexpensive enough to be your house white; enter world famous Pomerol producer Chateau Clinet. Clinet’s bright and refreshing ‘Ronan’ Bordeaux Blanc has bucked that trend, and despite a price of only $9.94, has a ton of deliciousness packed into the bottle.

One of Pomerol’s “most exciting” (Decanter) producers, Clinet’s track record producing 100pt reds is pretty noteworthy, but director Ronan Laborde had a broader vision. Starting in 2009, this Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blend has been a major hit, proving Bordeaux Blanc still strikes a chord when it's priced right, though being made by the same world famous team at Clinet certainly doesn’t hurt! This 2019 is lively and fresh with enough complexity to keep things interesting (rare to see at this price), making it the perfect patio wine!

Ronan Laborde has been a transformational force since he took the reins at Clinet when he was only 23 years old. Pomerol is a tiny appellation, and making new wines is a struggle, and Laborde understood how hard it was “to make entry-level, approachable Bordeaux that tastes good” (Decanter). Coming from a single estate vineyard in the Entre-deux-Mers region of Bordeaux, and priced at only $9.94, he clearly achieved his goal!

The Wine Cellar Insider: "This fresh, lively gem already hits the spot with all its ripe citrus, flowers and gentle touch of honey. This is a perfect summer poolside wine."
