With the temperatures starting to drop, that can mean one thing - the holidays are just around the corner and that calls for bubbles, lots of ‘em. Nothing gets the quality/price balance right quite like a non-vintage Champagne from a top house.
Look no further: we’ve just taken delivery on a parcel of Pol Roger Brut Extra Cuvée de Reserve NV - or “Silver Foil” as it’s affectionately known. It’s a seriously stylish entry point to the prestigious Pol Roger range, and at under $40 a bottle, you can serve it all year long guilt-free!
The house of Pol Roger is perhaps best known for Sir Winston Churchill Brut, its prestige cuvée dedicated to its most famous fan. Churchill is top-tier stuff, of course, and it comes at a top-tier price of around $200 a bottle. The popularity of Pol Roger can be put down to its focus on that top-tier quality throughout its entire portfolio. Per Decanter, “Pol Roger has soundly established a name for producing some of the best Champagnes on the market.”
Antonio Galloni has “long admired the estate's Champagnes for their superb balance and gracefulness”. Truly the house has mastered the art of achieving balance and grace through blending, and it shows in the Brut Extra Cuvée de Reserve. Cellarmaster Dominique Petit, previously of Bollinger and Krug, has crafted this non-vintage bottling from equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, representing over 30 different crus and including 25% reserve wine.
Get yourself a couple of cases of Pol Roger Brut Extra Cuvée de Reserve, and the holiday season is covered. It’s an exceptional bottling at an entry-level price from what Galloni calls “one of Champagne’s historic houses." Pop some bottles and raise a glass with your friends and family. Cheers!
