95+ I have had a rather amazing run of years tasting Magdelaine recently, as I have drunk the great (and still largely unknown) 1970 vintage on nearly a dozen occasions - out of both bottle and magnum- over this time. The wine has been consistently brilliant and is clearly one of the greatest wines produced in this excellent Bordeaux vintage. The 1970 Magdelaine soars from the glass in a classic and harmonious perfume of red cherries, blood orange, a touch of nutskin, chalky minerality, cocoa, a touch of gentle herb tones and a topnote of woodsmoke. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, and very pure, with classic Magdelaine transparency, a rock solid core of fruit, vibrant acidity, brilliant focus and a very, very long, complex, soil-driven and utterly seamless finish. This is simply a stunning vintage of Magdelaine.
