I have had this wine three times over the last six months twice from magnums and once from a regular bottle. Surprisingly there was little difference in the wines with the magnums perhaps exhibiting better color... I have had this wine three times over the last six months twice from magnums and once from a regular bottle. Surprisingly there was little difference in the wines with the magnums perhaps exhibiting better color saturation. Like so many Cask 23s the 1978 has been drinking well since it was released by the winery. A huge nose of jammy berry fruit oriental spices coffee mocha and herbs is enticing. There are gorgeous extract levels a supple velvety texture medium to full body and a smooth-as-silk rich finish. Displaying no signs of losing its fruit this wine which has been at its peak of maturity for nearly a decade can easily be held for another ten years.
