Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 2022

One of the great wines of the vintage, and the last produced under the ownership of the Woltner family, the 1982 La Mission Haut-Brion remains remarkably youthful, exhibiting a saturated ruby-black hue. Unfurling in the...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, September 2023

A stunning tasting experience that kicks off with a smoke-drenched perfume made even better by its tobacco leaf, wild cherry, tar, cherry, currant, herb and array of spices. Full, deep, concentrated, regal and intense...

Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages, October 2016

(19.5/20) So rich! Blew Mouton 1982 off the table for its complexity and breadth.

jamessuckling.com, December 2012

La Mission really does have its own character. Full body with velvety tannins with hints of berry, gravel and iodine. Some may not like the later but it tells you it’s La Mission. What a wine. Drink now.

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, January 2013

Tasted at Pebbles/Zachy’s 1982 dinner in Hong Kong. This is easily the finest bottle of La Mission ’82 that I have encountered. Here it has a delirious nose with tertiary black fruit, dried flowers, a slight balsam note...

Decanter, May 2023

Lifted and perfumed on the nose, fresh and ripe red fruit combine with floral scents. Smooth and supple, lively and fun on the palate with baked cherries, wet soil, sweet tobacco and gorgeous sweet, ripe strawberries...

Vinous, September 2022

The 1982 La Mission Haut-Brion is very similar to the one tasted in Hong Kong. Quite exotic on the nose, much more than Haut-Brion. There is that signature eucalyptus touch on the nose mixed with plenty of black fruit...

Wine Spectator, November 1998

Slightly rustic but firm and youthful. Dark ruby color. Beautiful aromas of berries and stones with a hint of black truffles. Medium- to full-bodied with silky tannins and a long spicy-stony finish...

Created by the noble Lestonnac family in the early years of the 16th century, the vineyard of Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion owes its name and its reputation to a missionary order commonly known as the Lazarites, who held the property from 1682 until the French Revolution.

The property is situated just opposite that of Chateau Haut-Brion, in the Pessac-Leognan appellation of the Northern Graves region. The vineyard covers an area of 29 hectares of which 26.60 hectares are planted with 42.7% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10.3% Cabernet Franc with an annual production of 6,000 to 7,000 cases. Over 3 hectares are devoted to white grape varieties (Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc).

In 1983, the Dillon family, already owners of Chateau Haut-Brion, added Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion to Domaine Clarence Dillon’s holdings. The new owners immediately set to work on an ambitious renovation program for the property, giving La Mission a new lease on life.

In the space of twenty-five years, the Dillon family, having fallen under the spell of this enchanting estate, successfully completed their impressive makeover of Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion so that for many years to come , it might continue to offer wine connoisseurs the world over a little glimpse of paradise in each bottle.

Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion is definitely bewitching. It possesses a great intensity that delights with complex red fruits and and the signature of its terroir showing notes of Havana cigars, chocolate, and roasted cedarwood. On the palate, the wine is spherical and generous with a long, silky finish.
