Not as intense a crimson as the 1980. Quite a wide colourless rim. Burnt, sweet, almost charred nose. The overwhelming impression is one of slightly simple sweetness. Can’t see any tannins left here – until the very end. Jewel-like – sort of rubies in a glass. Exceptionally rich and on the finish quite delicate in fact. Very slightly simple with the alcohol just nudging in on the finish. 18/20
