The 1985 Grande Dame is one of my all-time favorite vintages for the Veuve Clicquot Tête de Cuvée, and at age fifteen it is really at its absolute apogee and drinking brilliantly, The deep, complex and utterly refined nose jumps from the glass in a mélange of pear, fresh oranges, brioche, lovely, chalky minerality and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and zesty, with lovely tertiary complexity, very elegant mousse, nice framing acids, impeccable focus, fine grip and excellent balance on the long and dancing finish. This is a very classy bottle at its peak of maturity. (Drink between 2010-2020)
