Wine Spectator, December 1996

This remains a remarkably complex and flavorful wine but now it's elegant and refined as well with polished tannins. Classic Caymus in that it stretches the flavors with a range that goes from herb and tea to ripe plum...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 1996

In the blind tasting I first thought this was a Spanish wine given the intense pain grillee toasty oak and vanilla aromas. After ten minutes some of the oak dissipated allowing the wine's flamboyant blackcurrant fruit to...

Decanter, June 2022

From Caymus' estate vineyards in Rutherford and aged in oak for about four years before release. The nose is all dried leaves and herbs, the pyrazine character of Cabernet Sauvignon evident in the glass along with...

Caymus Vineyards was founded in Napa Valley by Charlie Wagner, his wife Belle Glos and their son Chuck in 1971. The first Caymus wine, 240 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon, was released in 1972. Over the 45 years that followed, Caymus wine has become an icon of Napa Valley and production has grown to 65,000 cases.

Caymus Vineyards is still 100% family-owned. Much of their wine comes from estate vineyards, 350 acres in all, located throughout Napa Valley. The Caymus wine line-up includes Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Caymus Napa Valley Zinfandel and their flagship wine, Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon.

The signature style of Caymus wine is based on ripe fruit and mouth-filling structure. The fine, Napa Valley weather allows grapes to hang on the vine into early Fall without risk. This extended ripening yields rich, jammy fruit and plush, melt-in-your-mouth tannins.

While Caymus wines are focused just on Napa Valley Cabernet and Zinfandel, the Wagner family has other wine labels too, including Mer Soleil, Emmolo and Conundrum, the latter a trend-setting white wine.

Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection is the flagship wine of the Wagner family, produced under the guidance of Chuck Wagner. Made from the very best barrels of the vintage, the wine is not produced in difficult vintages.

Its distinctive aromas and flavors are achieved through “hang time” – leaving the fruit to hang on the vine unusually long to develop suppleness, increase color, and mature the tannins of the grapes.
