Elegant, finely boned yet still luscious, this has sweet strawberry and raspberry notes with touches of truffle. Truffle, spice, stewed black fruit, tar, and 5 spice aromatics. The wine, fully mature, ends with a mélange of red and black fruits in a soft, velvety style on the palate. Owners should drink this sooner than later, since the wine is slowly going to drop its fruit. Fully mature, with considerable amber to its dark garnet color, this exotic, somewhat over-the-top style of wine shows lavishly wooded notes intermixed with tapenade, Asian spice, and sweet currant and plum-like fruit. Medium to full-bodied, very supple, without quite the level of concentrated and layered texture of the 1990, this is a wine to drink now and over the next 7-8 years. Last tasted, 10/02.
