A subtle concentrated graceful wine offering a band of cherry spice oak and plum-tinged flavors that bring out vanilla nutmeg and brown sugar notes on the finish. It's also firmly tannic and backward now so it's a good candidate for the cellar.

While there are vestiges of primary fruit remaining this has now gone largely secondary with subtle but not exuberant spice and mature black fruit notes preceding still somewhat structured flavors that offer good but not exceptional depth and a slightly one-dimensional finish. The '89 RSV has likely reached its apogee and while I would expect the remaining tannins to soften over time I don't see this necessarily improving from here. Multiple and consistent notes.
