Much deeper in color than the 1985, the 1990 Chambertin Clos de Bèze has abundant dark berry fruit on the nose: black cherries, raisin, dried fig and melted asphalt on a August afternoon. The palate is nicely focused, very pure and vitamin-like. Sweet and playful and if one is to criticize, missing some precision on the finish, this somewhat rugged 1990 has plenty to offer, though it is not a first division Chambertin in the context of the vintage. - Neal Martin
