A complex nose of subtle menthol intermixed with black currants cherries spice box cedar and herbs emerges from this fully mature 1990. It is a fleshy round generously endowed Margaux with silky tannins low acidity and beautiful purity. Drink it with great pleasure now or cellar it for another decade.

Tasted at an off-line dinner in Singapore. The -90 Rauzan-Segla is a lovely wine for the vintage, with its generous, perhaps diffuse nose of game, leather, cedar and smoked meats. Good definition and showing very good vigour, although it lacks a little Margaux typicite. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded melted tannins, a gourmand quality to this wine with a rich, opulent finish of sloes, mulberry and leather. Like many -90s, there is a touch of rusticity here, but it remains a wine you just want to drink rather than intellectualize over. Drink now-2020.

Very concentrated. Dark garnet color. Pretty licorice plum and currant aromas. Full-bodied with velvety ripe tannins and a long black licorice and cherry aftertaste.--1990 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2004. 11250 cases made. -JS
