Excellent vintage. A spicy and fragrant nose, perhaps the cooler January at work here, plenty of sage also in the mix, very concentrated and slightly more discreet than the 1991 and 1990. The palate has impressive concentration and cut, really bright and crisp with decent tannin ripeness and a juicy, sturdy and assertive drive through the finish. A great expression of fragrant, Eden Valley shiraz. Drink now.

Deep garnet-brick colored, the 1992 Hill of Grace exudes aromas of dried mulberries, blackberry preserves, iron ore, menthol and lavender. Well-structured with medium-firm chewy tannins, crisp acid and muscular fruit, it has a long and earthy finish. It is mature and holding strong. -Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Deep red-purple; a multi-faceted bouquet with a hint of Rhône Valley gaminess running through plum, blackberry, mulberry, cedar, leaf and earth; the palate replicates all the flavours plus touches of cedar and cigar box. Despite all this, not quite in the Olympian class of the '90 and '91 vintages

The 1992 Shiraz is the product of a long, dry and cool summer in Eden Valley, which has crafted an elegant and reserved Hill of Grace style. It opens with an array of fleshy fruit pastilles and blackberry aromas before meat stock and wintergreens emerge. The wine has a real freshness and brightness, with a firm acidic line. Vigorous tannins provide ample structure that is just beginning to overshadow the fruit. Best to enjoy over the next couple of years, although it will cellar for considerably longer. -- Angus Hughson
