Only 50% of the harvest went into the 1994 Cos d'Estournel a 60% Cabernet Sauvignon/40% Merlot blend. The deep saturated dark ruby/purple color is followed by gobs of toasty vanillin scents from new oak a rich sweet pure nose of cassis medium body potentially outstanding concentration and definition and a ripe moderately tannic finish. This elegant authoritatively flavored wine should be at its best between 2000-2020.</P>

Firm, medium-bodied, classic, tannic and with an herbal, green olive and leafy herb accent to the sharp, bright red fruits, the wine offers some rusticity to the dusty tannins in the finish. The nose is more interesting than the palate here. This is clearly an old-school wine that those wishing for days gone by might appreciate more than I did.
