Dark ruby/purple-colored with a classy vanillin black currant-scented nose that has not yet begun to unfold and reveal further nuances this medium to full-bodied wine is very expressive with rich concentrated curranty flavors and moderate tannin. There is good sweetness and lushness on the attack adequate acidity and a long tight but promising finish. This wine should improve for another 5 years and last for 15.

A gamy herbaceous style with spice tea currant and cedar notes it's well-balanced with a dash of dill on the finish. Firmly tannic it's at a good drinking stage.--California Cabernet '74/'84/'94 retrospective. Drink now through 2006. 13000 cases made. (JL)
