Woodward Canyon Winery widely acknowledged as one of Washington state's leading wineries has turned out a bevy of very good wines. However if my instincts are correct recent vintages are a notch or two below the spectacular quality achieved with some offerings in the eighties. I tasted three Chardonnays two of which can be recommended. Both are from the Celilo Vineyard. The 1995 Chardonnay Celilo Vineyard offers a bold rich tropical fruit-scented nose with attractive buttery honey notes. Fruity fleshy medium to full-bodied and clean this wine should be consumed over the next year. The third Chardonnay I tasted the 1995 Chardonnay Walla Walla Estate was cleanly made but too oaky.
