The 1996 Cardinale is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot of which 62% came from Napa and 38% from Sonoma. Just under 3000 cases were produced. It is also a top rank wine and a star of the vintage. A saturated purple color is followed by licorice cedar fruit cake and black currant aromas. Full-bodied powerful and concentrated with low acidity but high tannin this young muscular classic should have fabulous aging potential. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2028.
