It has great freshness on the nose, and it's still so young and full of beauty. Easily one of the most exciting wines here. (Drink between 2019-2032)

What it lacks is a sense of presence. Perhaps it is enduring a dumb phase? The palate is much better than the aromatics, showing fine balance and crisp tannins. The acidity is well judged and lends this Margaux plenty of freshness and it unfurls on the finish with white pepper, cedar and sea salt notes that linger long in the mouth. What starts as a modest wine ends really rather lovely and it should continue to give a decade or two of more drinking pleasure. Tasted July 2016. - Neal Martin

Intense aromas of blackberry, chocolate and currant follow through to a full-bodied palate, with soft tannins and a long decadent aftertaste. Ready to enjoy.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Drink now. 8,750 cases made. — JS

Truffle, tobacco, fresh picked blackberry and earthy notes open to a medium/full bodied wine that hovers on the austere, or should I say, classic side of the style range. With 3 hours of air, the wine softened, and developed aromatic complexities, but it remained an old school, classic style that could use a bit more charm. It's not about the quality, it's about the style. Either give it another 5 years of bottle age, or 3-4 hours of air, if you're thinking of popping a cork. Anther elegant wine from this estate is the 1996 Rauzan-Ségla, based on a 60/40 split of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Its medium ruby color is followed by a complex bouquet of cedar spice, menthol, saddle leather, and earth, and it has sweet, mature fruit. Nicely balanced on the palate, with a resolved, elegant texture, it’s certainly drinking at point today yet will keep nicely going forward.
