There is a touch of shoe-polish the wafts away. The palate is very well-balanced and classy. Sweet red berries, minerals. Light tannins, but they are well-integrated into the wine. I think this has more style and sophistication than the Cheval Blanc tasted before it. A success for the vintage.

Big, sweet and lush, with an eau de vie-like ripeness; voluptuous but not heavy. Offers distinct notes of roasted grapes. Low in acid and high in alcohol. Finishes with fat, sweet tannins. "Un gateau," says Mitjavile, who feels that this wine has the density to last well, and "to explode over a wide spectrum of aromas for many years." -- Stephen Tanzer
