The 1999 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets has intense mineral and stone aromatics. Medium-bodied masculine and concentrated this is a satin-textured chewy wine. It coats the palate with layer upon layer of minerals pears and gravel. It is a stunning 1999 in that it combines the vintage's supple pleasing mouthfeel with depth power and length. A real step up in intensity and even though the style and delivery are similar to the Vergers the additional complexity and class are immediately evident. White flower fruit brimming with minerality is followed by superb flavor detail. Not especially dense but very fine with a rather dry palate sensation and excellent length. The acidity here is sneaky in that the wine appears forward on the midpalate and then tightens up on the finish. Pretty in the best sense.
