This is complex and round with wonderful ripe fruit and richness. I love its generosity, giving so much yet still reserved. So much going on here, mind blowing. Pull the cork! Find the wine.

Decadent, earthy and opulent, with jam and spice on the nose. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, soft finish. There's wonderful density and beautiful fruit. So ready.—'99 Brunello blind retrospective (2009)... Decadent, earthy and opulent, with jam and spice on the nose. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, soft finish. Impressive saturated ruby extremely dark for Brunello. Brooding aromas of dark berry syrup and licorice distinct hints of surmaturite Then big broad and extremely unevolved highly concentrated but currently monolithic... Impressive saturated ruby extremely dark for Brunello. Brooding aromas of dark berry syrup and licorice distinct hints of surmaturite Then big broad and extremely unevolved highly concentrated but currently monolithic and not really displaying its fruit. Finishes with big chewy but ultimately rather fine tannins. Impressive in a modern style but is this too solid for its own good? 90(+?) points

Castello Banfi

Castello Banfi, a family-owned wine estate in the Tuscany region, was founded in 1978 by Italian-American brothers, John and Harry Mariani.

The Banfi territory encompasses 7,100 acres of land in Montalcino, of which about one third is planted with Sangiovese, Moscadello and other notable varieties on extremely rich and uniform soils of clay and calcium.

Banfi Piedmont was founded with the acquisition of the historic Bruzzone winery. The holdings there extend between the towns of Novi Ligure and Acqui over an area of 124 acres of which 114 are under vine.

The Banfi vineyards in Bolgheri, located south of Castagneto Carducci, give life to the prized Aska, bringing together intensity, roundness and structure.

Banfi also manages 100 acres of specialized vineyard in Chianti which bequeaths wines that bring together structure, elegance, and typical Tuscan personality.
