Taittinger’s 2000 Comtes de Champagne Rosé is drinking beautifully at age sixteen and is at its apogee of peak maturity. The bouquet is deep, pure and marvelously complex, wafting from the glass in a blend of tangerine, cherry skin, rye bread, a complex base of chalky soil tones, dried flowers, a touch of clove and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and seamless, with a superb core of fruit, very refined mousse, impeccable balance and a very long, complex and vibrant finish. I love Comtes de Champagne Rosé from the moment that it is released, but it seems like it really hits one of its sweet spots in its evolution around age fifteen!
