Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, June 2011

Caymus has been around for so long there is a tendency to under-estimate their wines. However, they have a brilliant track record as evidenced by the decade old 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage Selection. Abundant...

Connoisseur's Guide, August 2004

If generally among the richest Cabernets of the year, Caymus Special Selection bottlings are also among the most outgoing and obvious as well, and this latest very much proves the rule. Immensely oaky, but brought into...

Wine Enthusiast, December 2004

...A lush textured wine that shows gobs of blackberry cherry plum coffee spice herb and anise flavors all framed in firm ripe tannins. The finish is long with a spicy edge. Quite intense and full-on.

Wine Spectator, January 2011

Aging very well, with ripe, juicy wild berry, jam and spice. Full-bodied and persistent, gaining velocity and depth, impressive for its vibrancy and focus. Ends with firm tannins.—2001 California Cabernet blind...

Caymus Vineyards was founded in Napa Valley by Charlie Wagner, his wife Belle Glos and their son Chuck in 1971. The first Caymus wine, 240 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon, was released in 1972. Over the 45 years that followed, Caymus wine has become an icon of Napa Valley and production has grown to 65,000 cases.

Caymus Vineyards is still 100% family-owned. Much of their wine comes from estate vineyards, 350 acres in all, located throughout Napa Valley. The Caymus wine line-up includes Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Caymus Napa Valley Zinfandel and their flagship wine, Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon.

The signature style of Caymus wine is based on ripe fruit and mouth-filling structure. The fine, Napa Valley weather allows grapes to hang on the vine into early Fall without risk. This extended ripening yields rich, jammy fruit and plush, melt-in-your-mouth tannins.

While Caymus wines are focused just on Napa Valley Cabernet and Zinfandel, the Wagner family has other wine labels too, including Mer Soleil, Emmolo and Conundrum, the latter a trend-setting white wine.

Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection is the flagship wine of the Wagner family, produced under the guidance of Chuck Wagner. Made from the very best barrels of the vintage, the wine is not produced in difficult vintages.

Its distinctive aromas and flavors are achieved through “hang time” – leaving the fruit to hang on the vine unusually long to develop suppleness, increase color, and mature the tannins of the grapes.
