The 2001 Chardonnay Quarry Estate is a very rare wine Mark and Teresa Aubert made for only five vintages. It was sourced from Peter Michael's La Carrière vineyard. Orange confit, crème brûlée, crushed rocks, ash, copious new oak and a hint of reduction all open in the glass. The 2001 is fully mature, it opens beautifully with a bit of aeration. More importantly, the Quarry Estate represents a fascinating piece of Aubert's early history. The 2001 was aged in Remond, François Frères and Damy barrels, 100% new and with a bit heavier toast than what is favored today. From magnum, it is truly special.
